Lost and Found Treasures

I plucked a bowlful of blueberries fresh from the bush outside the small red Maine cottage where we were spending a midsummer week. Not a thing you get to do every day in the suburbs back home. The berries were so blue. The garden, blooming bountifully that summer, was so vivid. We ate them with our strong coffee at breakfast, and savored each sweet bite, but not before I photographed them just a few more times.

This was a moment that I savor even now, as I look at these photographs six years later. I had forgotten about the berries until the need to sort my photo library had arisen. What had begun as drudgery quickly turned into fun, as I discovered once lost photographs, now found. I felt the sun of that morning washing over me; I was tasting the flavor of these berries once more. The scene came back to me with startling clarity.

Finding these berries inspired my piece yesterday, Are There Any Advantages to Being Disorganized? To answer that question, I offer this proof: Discovery is but one of several joys the disorganized can expect to have.
