The boundaries were clear, to those who read the sign in Scenic, South Dakota in 1980, as they had been since 1906: No Indians Allowed. When I returned 23 years later, Scenic was much the same. But the Longhorn Saloon had expanded its mind, like its boundaries, to allow Indians, though you’d have to look closely to see the painted-over word NO since it was nearly hidden by abundant new growth. Sometimes, growth takes awhile.

The boundaries photo challenge from The Daily Post prompted this pictorial venture into backwards times and regrettable moments—the ones that offer us all the most opportunities for growth. ♣

How cool that I just happened upon it again a few decades later…and noticed the change! Thanks, Tina, so glad you appreciated it.
