In Search of the Hidden Falls

“The seeker embarks on a journey to find what he wants and discovers, along the way, what he needs.”

Wally Lamb

The hike to Hidden Falls was not easy, and as it turned out, the Falls were not so hidden. Hundreds of people were already there,  making selfies in front of the falls, their vast numbers largely due to the ease of arrival across Jenny Lake by ferry. Made with no effort. Just pay a wad of money, board a boat, ferry across the lake, walk up a few timbered steps, and bingo! Discover and record the “Hidden” Falls.

Because we hiked, somewhat arduously, the long rocky way up, risking the loss of the one member of our group who went his own way at the fork, and worried over the loss of our group’s bear spray (pricey at $50, but priceless if needed)—being carried by our group’s adventurous wanderer—surely we deserved the lone photograph at trail’s end.

But this photograph is one of hundreds made that cool and sunny amazing day in the Grand Tetons, one of many such days, when no bears accosted us, and when we found our errant hiker safe and sound, and more importantly, we remained in possession of our discoveries, our memories, and our unused bear spray.

Take at look at more photographs of what’s hidden but worth the trek at my Naturescapes Shop.

    1. Thank you! It was a hard shot to make without the selfie-taking hordes getting in the way 😉 and yes, I knew about the ferry, and my heart sank. Usually when you hike somewhere special, you’re rewarded by solitude. But I wanted to hike. It’s all about the journey.
