The lonelier the trees, the better: I’m drawn to them like autumn leaves are to the ground. When they’re bare and vulnerable during the winter months, I want to imagine their fairer-weather stories, contemplate their willingness to lay low and quiet in the cold, admire their sturdy forbearance in a melancholy time. I note the order they bring to disorder; their steady, uncomplaining winter ritual; their slow, patient growth until they suddenly burst forth tentatively, then madly, in spring.

Email me to purchase: Trees in the Snow is painted in oil on canvas with shimmering golds and silvers, 28 x 22.”
