Have Some Art with That Wine?
Wine and art make an incomparable pairing. That must be why it’s always served at art gallery openings. In fact, isn’t that why there’s such a high attendance at openings? Clearly art lovers have another love: (free) wine. Gallery owners may have the last laugh, though, as it may convert those art lovers into art buyers.
Famous artists and yet-to-be-famous artists alike have painted wine; and they’ve been inspired by wine while at their easels. I’ve painted with a weekly art group that served wine to help the paint flow. It did, too.
Photographers are smitten with wine, too; the first pour of the day often merits a photograph, as this one did for me on a sunny Maine summer afternoon at a shady porch table.
How’s your art influenced by wine? Is your collecting influenced by wine? Are your art sales influenced by wine? Think wine’s a time-honored subject for art?

I’d be lying if I said I don’t often pour myself I nice glass of red to get my creative juices flowing! I’ve also painted wine. I totally agree that wine and art are just a great pairing in every way 🙂
Thanks for your forthright response! Painting wine (often with a bottle and cheese and grapes) is a classic still life assignment for beginners, but of course, even the pros can bring new feeling and style to it. Having a glass of wine to enjoy art, and to make art (for me, painting only; not photographing), is totally natural. Glad to hear you think so, too.
Thanks for the pingback! I agree with your comment above, a glass of wine is great to help the creative take wing…just not when out walking or driving around taking photos, but when processing the photos, why not?

Thanks, Terry, I will be posting your painting here the week of July 29, and I’m hoping to receive more paintings and photographs on the subject of wine, too, so that I can share them in my post. It’s a topic that’s coming out of the closet, isn’t it? As for enjoying the painting or the wine more, I think that both contributed to the main pleasure–our companionship. A santé!
